India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra has reclaimed the world No. 1 position in men’s javelin throw, surpassing Grenada’s Anderson Peters in the latest World Athletics rankings released earlier this week. Chopra now holds 1445 ranking points, edging past Peters’ 1431.

Neeraj’s 2025 Season: A Journey of Consistency and Dominance
Neeraj’s climb back to the top of the global rankings comes on the back of a stellar 2025 season. He kick-started the year with a victory at the Potch Invitational in South Africa in April. This was followed by a national record-breaking throw of 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League in May, securing him second place and entry into the prestigious 90m club.

Later that month, he again finished second at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland. However, Chopra bounced back with a first-place finish at the Paris Diamond League in June, recording a throw of 88.16m. Most recently, he claimed the Ostrava Golden Spike title, reinforcing his dominant form.

Arshad Nadeem in the Mix, Julian Weber Ranked Third
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic champion, currently sits at fourth in the world rankings with 1370 points. Meanwhile, Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw a world-leading 91.06m at the Doha Diamond League, holds the third position. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist, rounds out the top five.

Rivalry with Peters: Neeraj’s Winning Streak Continues
Chopra’s consistent top performances in 2025 have kept him ahead of Anderson Peters in all four of their head-to-head meetings this year. In fact, the last time Neeraj trailed Peters was back in 2022 at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where Peters won gold and Chopra took silver.

Currently, Neeraj leads Peters 16-5 in career finals matchups, cementing his dominance in their ongoing rivalry.
