Massive 6,000 kg Iron Bridge Stolen in Mumbai’s Malad, Four Arrested in Connection with Theft
In a shocking incident, a massive 6,000 kg iron bridge was stolen from Mumbai’s Malad area, leading to the arrest of four individuals involved in the theft. The bridge, which spanned 90 feet and was installed by utility company Adani Electricity to facilitate the movement of power cables in the western suburb of Malad (west), was surreptitiously dismantled by the perpetrators.

According to Mumbai Police officials, the temporary iron bridge, initially used to cross over a drain, had been relocated after the construction of a permanent bridge a few months ago. However, the theft went unnoticed until locals discovered the bridge missing on June 26. Subsequently, Adani Electricity filed a police complaint regarding the stolen bridge, valued at ₹2 lakh, as reported by PTI.
The incident raised eyebrows, given that the bridge was situated in a busy and well-lit area. During the course of their investigation, the police determined that the bridge was last seen at its designated location on June 6. In the absence of CCTV cameras at the site, law enforcement officials analyzed surveillance footage from nearby areas and identified a heavy vehicle transporting gas cutter machines towards the bridge on June 11.
“The vehicle had gas-cutting machines which were used to dismantle the bridge and steal iron weighing 6,000 kg,” stated a police official familiar with the case.
Following their investigation, the police arrested four individuals involved in the theft, including one person affiliated with the firm contracted for bridge construction. Last week, the employee and three of his accomplices were taken into custody. The stolen iron bridge was subsequently recovered.
The audacious theft of such a significant infrastructure component highlights the need for enhanced security measures and surveillance in public areas.
