Leela Rani Kodali is an Indian educator, social activist, entrepreneur, and author whose life’s work reflects a steady commitment to learning, community welfare, and cultural expression. Born and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, she grew up in an environment that encouraged discipline, learning, and social awareness. She completed her schooling at Holy Angels Convent, Chennai, and pursued higher education at Stella Maris College, Chennai. Her academic qualifications include a Pre-University Course (PUC), a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Bachelor of Education in Social Studies. These formative years played an important role in shaping her understanding of society and the transformative role of education within it.

Leela Rani Kodali began her professional career as an English teacher, where she became known for her student-centered approach and emphasis on values alongside academics. Her work in education later led to her appointment as Principal of Padma Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, an institution managed by Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao. During her tenure, she focused on improving academic standards while also encouraging students’ moral, cultural, and creative development. Her contribution to the field of education was formally recognized with the Best Teacher Award presented by the then Mayor of Chennai, M. K. Stalin.

Alongside her teaching career, she contributed to academic publishing by authoring textbooks and workbooks for Ryan Publications, Mumbai. These works, designed for students from Standards 1 to 8, covered subjects such as English, Environmental Studies, History, and Geography. Her writing aimed to make learning accessible and engaging, reinforcing foundational concepts across disciplines.

Her interest in literature and drama further expanded her creative engagement. She received the Best Playwright Award from the Collector of Chennai for her adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, particularly for the court scene, which was noted for its clarity and contextual interpretation.

Social service has remained a consistent part of Leela Rani Kodali’s life. She has been associated with the Sathya Sai Committee Lions Club, through which she organized free coaching classes, educational tours, and welfare initiatives for underprivileged children. In addition, she has independently provided free tuition and academic guidance to school dropouts, viewing education as a practical means of social inclusion and empowerment. Her involvement has often encouraged students and volunteers to participate actively in community-oriented initiatives.

Beyond education and social work, she explored entrepreneurship by founding Bala Leela Arts, an Indian production company. Through this venture, she entered the field of film and media production, using creative platforms to engage with cultural and social themes. This phase of her work reflects an effort to bridge artistic expression with broader social narratives.

Leela Rani Kodali has also held leadership roles in public and voluntary organizations. She served as Secretary of the Youth Congress in Chennai and later as President for Hyderabad of the United Nexus Organization, an international body focused on education, cultural exchange, and social welfare. In addition, she has been associated with Bharat Vikas Parishad as Joint Secretary, Telangana Pranth, contributing to organizational activities aimed at social and national development.

In her personal life, she is the wife of Kodali Bose Babu, and together they have shared a life rooted in social values and community engagement.

Her work has been acknowledged through several recognitions, including the Best Teacher Award, the Best Playwright Award, and a felicitation by G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Mines, Government of India, for her contributions to society.
