In an effort to support exporters and businesses navigating the complexities of global trade, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has launched a dedicated ‘Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk.’ The new initiative, unveiled on Friday, is aimed at helping businesses address challenges arising due to the United States’ reciprocal tariffs and other emerging trade issues.
The Commerce Department and DGFT are actively monitoring developments in global trade, particularly changes in tariffs, import surges, and export-related challenges. The ministry acknowledged that the evolving landscape of international trade, characterized by the introduction of various tariff and counter-tariff measures, may create new export opportunities while increasing import pressures on specific product sectors. To assist businesses in navigating these shifting dynamics, the government has introduced this support system, encouraging exporters and importers to share their concerns and seek guidance.
The ‘Global Tariff Challenges Helpdesk’ will address a wide range of issues faced by businesses, including challenges related to imports and exports, surges in imports, dumping, customs clearance, logistics or supply chain difficulties, financial and banking issues, and regulatory or compliance challenges. The helpdesk will also work with other ministries and government departments at both the central and state levels to coordinate responses and find resolutions to trade-related issues.
Exporters and importers facing trade-related difficulties are encouraged to use the helpdesk to seek support. Businesses can reach out via email at dgftedi@nic.in with the subject line “Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk” or by calling the toll-free helpline at 1800-111-550. Additionally, businesses can track the status of their requests using the status tracker available on the DGFT helpdesk service.
This new initiative is part of the Indian government’s continued efforts to support its business community in the face of evolving global trade challenges, particularly in light of shifting trade policies and growing protectionist measures globally.
