Byju’s, the prominent edtech company, is making significant changes to its sales approach under the leadership of founder and CEO Byju Raveendran. Amidst a challenging period, Byju’s has slashed course prices by up to 30 percent and introduced flexible working policies for its sales staff, emphasizing empathy and counseling over aggressive sales tactics.

In a meeting attended by nearly 1,500 sales associates, Byju Raveendran emphasized the importance of adopting a more empathetic approach towards selling courses. He encouraged the sales team to focus on counseling students and empowering them as learners, rather than simply pushing sales.

The shift in strategy marks a transition from a push-based sales model to a pull-based model, driven by a love for learning rather than a fear of missing out. Managers are now tasked with acting as coaches, providing support and enabling the sales team, rather than enforcing strict call quotas.

During the meeting, Raveendran stated, “Your job is not to sell, but to counsel. You are not sales people; you are education counselors, empowering students to become better learners.” He also emphasized flexibility in work hours, allowing sales associates to achieve results efficiently and encouraging a healthy work-life balance.

Additionally, Byju’s is offering discounted annual subscriptions for its BYJU’S Learning App, with BYJU’S Classes and BYJU’S Tuition Centres also available at reduced rates. Sales associates have the opportunity to earn a significant portion of the revenue they generate, with managers receiving a percentage as well.
