In a daring heist that unfolded at Umrao Jewellers in south Delhi’s Jangpura, thieves managed to outsmart security measures, disconnecting CCTV cameras and drilling a hole into the strongroom to make off with a staggering haul of ornaments valued between ₹20 to ₹25 crore. The audacious robbery occurred at Umrao Jewellers in the Bhogal area, spanning the hours between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

A Meticulous Plan Unfolds

The criminals initiated their meticulously planned operation by entering the four-floor building from the terrace. Their ultimate destination was the ground floor, where the strongroom was securely situated. To access the coveted valuables, the thieves resorted to drilling a hole into the strongroom’s wall, granting them entry to the cache of ornaments stored within. In addition to the items stored in the strongroom, the robbers also seized jewellery prominently displayed in the showroom.

The shocking discovery of the theft was made by the showroom’s owner, who had securely locked the premises on Sunday evening. It was only upon reopening the showroom on Monday morning that the owner was confronted with the devastating reality of the heist. Typically, the store remains closed on Mondays.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are diligently reviewing the footage recorded on the CCTV cameras before they were disconnected in an effort to identify potential leads and suspects. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

This brazen incident closely follows a similar robbery reported in Haryana’s Ambala, where thieves targeted a cooperative bank. Employing a gas cutter, the culprits drilled a hole in the bank’s wall to gain access, subsequently breaking open 32 lockers to make off with jewellery and other valuable items. The theft remained undiscovered until Monday morning due to the bank’s closure over the weekend.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics employed by criminals in orchestrating elaborate heists, leaving authorities on high alert and intensifying efforts to secure valuable assets against such audacious thefts.
