“Reliance and NVIDIA Collaborate to Develop Indigenous Large Language Model for AI in India”
Reliance Industries partners with chip design giant NVIDIA to build a powerful indigenous language model for AI, advancing India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence and technology infrastructure.
In a significant step towards advancing India’s artificial intelligence and semiconductor chip ambitions, global chip design leader NVIDIA and local conglomerate Reliance Industries announced a strategic partnership on September 8. Their joint initiative aims to develop an indigenous foundation for a large language model, specifically trained to understand and generate content in India’s diverse languages for various AI applications.
The collaboration between Reliance Industries and NVIDIA extends to the construction of a formidable AI infrastructure, significantly more powerful than India’s fastest supercomputer at present.
Under this partnership, NVIDIA will provide access to its cutting-edge chips and AI supercomputing services in the cloud. The execution and implementation of the project will be overseen by Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, with extensive experience and offerings in mobile telephony, 5G spectrum, fiber networks, and more.
The AI infrastructure will be hosted in AI-ready computing data centers, with plans to expand its capacity to a remarkable 2,000 MW.
Jensen Huang, the Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with Reliance to build state-of-the-art AI supercomputers in India. India has scale, data, and talent. With the most advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance can build its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India, for the people of India.”
This partnership between Reliance Jio and NVIDIA perfectly aligns with Reliance Industries’ strategy to become a comprehensive digital, cloud, and networking platform, catering to both consumers and business customers.
