In a bid to encourage passenger travel and optimize accommodation utilization, the Railway Board has announced a significant reduction of up to 25% in fares for AC chair car and executive classes of all trains, including the renowned Vande Bharat Express. This move aligns with the discounted fare scheme recently introduced by the Ministry of Railways.

Under the scheme, the discounted fares will be applicable to AC Chair Car and Executive classes of trains that offer AC sitting accommodation, such as Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. The discount will be applied to the basic fare, while other charges such as reservation fees, superfast surcharge, and GST will be levied separately.
The implementation of the discount scheme will be based on the occupancy levels of the trains. If the occupancy of a train in specific sections or legs falls below 50% over the last 30 days, the discount will be introduced accordingly. It should be noted that the discount scheme will take effect immediately, but no fare refunds will be granted for passengers who have already booked their tickets.
In cases where the flexi fare scheme is currently applicable in a particular class and the occupancy remains poor, the flexi fare scheme may be temporarily withdrawn to boost occupancy levels. If this measure does not yield the desired results, the discount scheme may be implemented in those trains or classes.
However, the discounted fares will not be applicable to special trains introduced for holidays or festivals, among other occasions.
To facilitate the implementation of the discounted fare scheme, the Railway Board has delegated the power to the Zonal Railways. Additionally, the discount can be availed of until the preparation of the first chart or through onboard Ticket Checking Staff (TTE) during the current booking phase.
It is expected that the reduced fares will provide an incentive for passengers to choose AC chair car and executive classes, promoting increased occupancy and ensuring better utilization of resources.
This move by the Railway Board demonstrates their commitment to enhancing passenger experience while offering affordable travel options across various classes. Passengers can now enjoy the comfort and convenience of AC chair car and executive classes at more economical rates.
