Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath has been named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2024. A 10-member jury selected Kamath for his transformative low-margin, high-volume approach, which has reshaped the brokerage industry. He will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award in Monte Carlo in June 2025.

The 26th edition of the awards also saw KV Kamath receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented by the chief guest, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav. The event was virtually addressed by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who praised entrepreneurs for redefining the power of possibilities.

“This feels truly special. As an entrepreneur, I often ask myself what matters more: market cycles or business skills? The answer is usually market cycles. I started trading 27 years ago, which eventually led to the founding of Zerodha. Our idea was simple—offer low-cost broking, a stable platform, and transparent services. The tipping point for us came in 2016 with Aadhaar, which enabled digital onboarding, and our business grew exponentially from there,” Kamath said while accepting the award.
