In a significant development for the aviation industry, SpiceJet has announced that it will reintroduce its grounded Boeing 737 Max aircraft starting January 29, marking an important step in the airline’s fleet restoration and operational enhancement efforts. The move follows a phased plan to bring all of the airline’s Boeing 737 Max planes back into service.
The first of the reintroduced Boeing 737 Max aircraft will be deployed on high-demand routes, including Jeddah and Riyadh, starting Wednesday, according to SpiceJet’s statement. The airline noted that the aircraft, grounded for several months, will now be a part of its ongoing efforts to revitalize its fleet and improve operational efficiency.
SpiceJet’s fleet restoration plan includes bringing a total of ten aircraft back into service by mid-April, which will include four Boeing 737 Max planes. This step is the first phase of the restoration process, with the 737 Max now returning to service after extensive downtime.
Since October 2024, SpiceJet has expanded its fleet by adding ten new aircraft, which include three previously grounded planes and seven newly leased aircraft. This fleet expansion has allowed the airline to strengthen its network, with over 60 new flights launched in the past three months, thereby improving connectivity and offering passengers more travel options.
To ensure the restoration of its Boeing 737 Max fleet, SpiceJet has entered into agreements with US-based engine MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) provider StandardAero Inc and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for LEAP-1B engines, CFM International, Inc. These collaborations will help maintain the high standards of safety and efficiency needed for the airline’s operations.
The reintroduction of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft is expected to significantly boost SpiceJet’s capacity to serve key international and domestic routes, reinforcing its position in the competitive aviation market.
