The Government of India has approved the appointment of Rama Mohan Rao Amara as the Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI), filling the vacancy left by the elevation of C.S. Setty as Chairman of the country’s largest lender.


The Government of India has approved the appointment of Rama Mohan Rao Amara as the Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI), filling the vacancy left by the elevation of C.S. Setty as Chairman of the country’s largest lender.
According to a regulatory filing by SBI on Wednesday, Mr. Amara will serve as Managing Director for a period of three years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Prior to this, Mr. Amara served as Deputy Managing Director at SBI. His selection as MD completes the SBI leadership team, which consists of a Chairman and four Managing Directors.
The appointment highlights SBI’s efforts to ensure seamless leadership transitions to maintain its position as India’s leading financial institution.
