IndiGo Airlines has issued a cautionary advisory to passengers as Mumbai continues to grapple with heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, causing widespread disruption in the city and surrounding areas.

This morning, residents of Mumbai woke up to submerged roads, inundated railway lines, and flooding in low-lying neighborhoods. The downpour, which intensified early today following a high tide at 3:39 am, has added to concerns as another high tide is expected at 4:09 pm. Authorities remain vigilant as they anticipate further challenges throughout the day.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai and Palghar under a yellow alert, indicating the likelihood of continued heavy rainfall. Additionally, Thane and Navi Mumbai (Raigad) are under an orange alert, forecasting even more severe weather conditions.

Over the past week, Mumbai has faced significant waterlogging, resulting in traffic jams, disruptions in train services, and delays in flights. IndiGo Airlines, in response to the adverse weather conditions, has advised passengers to stay updated on their flight statuses due to potential delays and congestion at Mumbai’s airports.

“Flights are impacted due to heavy rains and air traffic congestion in Mumbai. Do keep a tab on the flight status,” IndiGo conveyed in a communication via social media.

Monday’s rainfall in the city reached a staggering 300 mm, severely affecting daily commuters and leading to the closure of schools during the morning session. The intense deluge highlighted the vulnerability of Mumbai’s infrastructure during the monsoon season, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by residents and authorities alike.
