This move stands in contrast to the return-to-office policies adopted by tech giants like Apple, Alphabet Inc’s Google, Microsoft Corp, and Meta.

Globant’s decision is significant as it marks one of the largest-scale implementations of remote work in the tech industry. Migoya emphasized that while he values in-person work, the transition to remote work occurred naturally without coercing employees. He acknowledged the office’s role as a center for connection and collaboration rather than just a workspace.

The company has adapted its office spaces post-pandemic, replacing individual desks with communal round tables and creating additional lounge areas. This approach aligns with Globant’s philosophy of autonomy and flexibility, allowing teams to decide how they work best.

Global CEO Patricia Pomies echoed Migoya’s sentiments, questioning the necessity of fixed office days and emphasizing the value of autonomy and remote collaboration. She highlighted the benefits of a digital office and remote working, stating that this approach is common sense for a tech company.

While Globant’s decision contrasts with the return-to-office strategies of other tech giants, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Meta, the debate over remote versus in-person work continues. In India, Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath noted challenges with remote work, particularly for roles requiring close communication and decision-making. He highlighted positive outcomes from a hybrid return-to-office model.

In January, IBM took a stricter stance, requiring managers still working remotely to relocate near an office or leave the company, showcasing the diversity of approaches within the tech industry regarding remote work policies.
