Scaler, an edtech company, has recently announced a round of layoffs affecting approximately 150 employees, constituting about 10% of its workforce. The move comes as part of the company’s strategy to streamline operations and reduce redundancy in roles, as reported by Moneycontrol citing informed sources.
The impacted employees primarily come from departments such as marketing, sales, and others. This decision reflects Scaler’s efforts to optimize its workforce structure and enhance operational efficiency.
As of now, Scaler boasts a workforce of around 1,500 employees, out of which 1,000 are full-time staff members. The remaining workforce comprises consultants, contractual employees, and interns, according to the company’s statement.
This development marks a shift from the company’s previous trajectory. In 2022, Scaler had expanded its workforce significantly, growing by over 150% to reach 2,000 employees from an initial count of 800.
Abhimanyu Saxena, Co-Founder of Scaler and InterviewBit, explained the rationale behind the layoffs. He emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and delivering top-notch learning experiences to its users. As part of a restructuring initiative, certain functions and roles, particularly in marketing and sales, were identified for restructuring or elimination.
Saxena stated, “We have designed a new way of working to be able to achieve sustainable growth while delivering the best learning experience and outcomes for our learners – something that we’ve always been committed to. As part of this restructuring, we identified some functions/roles, primarily in marketing and sales, in the company that we had to part ways with.”
The decision to downsize certain departments reflects Scaler’s strategic focus on optimizing resources and aligning its workforce with its long-term goals. It also underscores the evolving dynamics within the edtech industry as companies adapt to changing market conditions and business strategies.
